Remote Sensing Lab 1
This picture was used in an exercise to help train us in identifying object from aerial images, particularly with grayscale when colors may not be so obvious. While some shapes like the pier were easy to figure out since it looked like it was surrounded by water. Others like the pool were a bit more challenging as it was a generic shape that could resemble a variety of structures. I definitely feel like my visual senses are a lot more sharper after this as I had to use many clues to determine what objects could be identified as.
This exercise was to help us determine tones and textures in images. This was a bit easier to do as it doesn't require as many cues, but more so paying attention to how dark or light something is as well as the grainy aspect of it. Forested areas were of a darker tone and were much more coarse while airfield grass was of a light tone and much more smooth. This skill would come in handy when determining the composition of an aerial image, especially without labels.
